Auto Insurance for Your Vehicle

by: Ray Gallagher

Getting an auto insurance policy is mandatory in many countries across the world. The moment you buy a vehicle be it a car, a truck, a three wheele, you are bound by law to get an auto insurance policy. Auto insurance is also a type of proof of the ownership of that vehicle. This is the reason that if you are caught driving a vehicle which does not have an auto insurance policy then you may be punished by law. It is a way of safeguarding your vehicle against theft or injury due to an accident. The policy is generally given for a period of one year and a person has to renew the insurance before the term of the previous insurance expires. If your auto insurance is not renewed on the due date and the insurance lapses then you are liable for a fine and you have to renew the insurance anyway. Also, if your vehicle is stolen or suffers a major accident then you will not get any money for it. So it is always best if you renew your auto insurance before it expires.

Making a Claim For an Auto Accident

You can make a claim to the insurance company in the case of theft of the vehicle or damage incurred to the vehicle due to a road accident. For this you have to file a police report first, and then make the claim along with the police report to the insurance office. A person is liable for auto insurance claim both in the case of a minor injury or a dent to the vehicle or a crash. In the case of the latter a thorough investigation is done by the company and then pays the money to the claimer if they are entitled to it.

Getting an Auto Insurance Policy

A person is provided an auto insurance policy any one of a number of auto insurance companies out there. If, after one year, there is no claim on your auto insurance policy then you can renew your policy again for the next year, usually at the same or lower rate. There are plenty of places, including online that you can get an auto insurance policy now. It is best to shop around to make sure you get the correct coverage you want at the lowest rates.

Filing False Auto Insurance Claims

It has been seen that sometimes the owner of a vehicle connives with one of the employees of the auto insurance company and make false claims on his vehicle. Sometimes car owners file false claims on their own to try and get the auto insurance company to pay for their repairs. When this happens the insurance company loses money. If it happens a lot, they lose a lot of money. Therefore, the auto insurance companies take extra precautions when looking into the claims made and employ good detectives to ascertain that the claim made is a genuine one; And if fraud is found to have taken place, they can take action against the claimer. So, as with everything else in life, just be honest when making a claim and stay out of trouble.
